The Community Services Department seeks to help our church put ‘Christian love’ into action in our local communities. The department follows the example of Jesus by recognising the importance of meeting people’s practical and material needs, before addressing their spiritual needs. Our church is actively involved with community projects catering to specific local needs within the neighbourhood.

Our department’s strategy is concerned with:

1. Identifying the social needs of the local community

2. Supporting local communities through projects

3. Assisting in times of crisis and working towards long-term solutions

4. Developing and maintaining relationships with community leaders which provides effective channels for mutual growth and action

5. Facilitating the right and ability of children to attain their full potential

6. Promoting and expanding the involvement of youth in community action

7. Reflecting the character of Jesus through all activities.

On going Community Projects:

1. Attendance to local respite home. This is a annual event consisting of volunteers attending a respite home for adults with special needs. Church volunteers spend a week assisting the needs of the residents, (socialising, assisting with daily excursions, assisting with meals).

2. Support to the SDA Winter Shelter. Volunteers support this event during the winter festive period. The Shelter provides an opportunity for the homeless to have place to sleep, provided with toiletries, new clothes, hot meals, etc.

3. Church Harvest, this is a time normally early September, when Church members donate food items and these are distributed to members of the local community.
